A complete stranger had asked me the other day to define myself in three stories. How do you tell someone you’ve met for a whole five minutes about personal things? Things you clutch too closely to your chest it has become you? I tried my best.

  1. I am my mother’s daughter. I am Alex’s twin. I am Viki’s and Yuri’s sister. I am a part of that sum which makes me whole, a sum I call family. I told him about the time when we cried endlessly when my mother suffered a stroke. I told him that whatever strength I have with me is because I am weighed down and pulled up by the people who love me the most.
  2. To be my mother’s daughter is to want to change the world. I always talk about my mother. I always cry when I talk about my mother.
  3. I am a sum of all the kindness of all those around me. Family and friends–even those who are not talking to me, at the moment. I told a complete stranger that I think I am who I am because I am surrounded by kind people—the people who are most dear to me are full of kindness and light I can only want to become a better person.

Sunday Lunch: Coke Ribs + Corn on the Cob

I’ve been so busy this week running up and down this building in the Ortigas Business Center. Here is a snippet of what I have been busy on:

The argument over the romanticizing or demonizing of rebel groups has a point. While the acts of insurgencies of these individuals are appalling, they are in fact just violent acts in response to aggression or growing dissatisfaction.

Engendering fears through hostility against the rebels would only serve to heighten the friction. Dialogue must be one of the programs’ fronts, accompanied by a neutral stance disassociated from military arms.

I spent my Sunday (February 19) celebrating one of Batman’s known birthdays by having lunch to celebrate him. My family is delighted of course. I am actually more delighted at the fact that we get to have Sunday lunches together.

We had Coke Ribs and Corn on the Cob and rice (Because rice is the best side dish.)

Dinner in La Scala, Malate, Manila

The reason I am poor and fat is because I eat out a lot. The reason why I have very little money in the bank is because I eat out a lot. In a week, I eat out at least three times, not counting the other food things I spend my money on like milk tea, chocolates and other things I can stuff my face with.

The other day, I had dinner in La Scala in Malate, Manila with my lopkitty. It was one of the most enjoyable dinners we had for a very long time. We spent about Php 1,200 for dinner for two–a little more expensive than what we usually spend on food, but it was so very worth it.

A Rocket to the Moon, Peace Process Paper, etc.

1. I am feeling uninspired at the moment and I can not seem to finish my paper on peace process and development. My brother is cajoling me to just use lyrics from songs in order to buttress the paper–with nonsense.

My brother Yuri is telling me to put lyrics of a Whitney Houston song. I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way. Doing so, according to my brother, would show my compassion and empathy for the children and our future and would make my paper very timely and relevant. At this point, I am a little tempted to do it.

I am still a little stumped. Sometimes, I worry I am not really much of a writer. Technical writing is not my strongest forte and I wish I would have really shifted to a degree in the Social Sciences. My paper is about the government’s peace process efforts in Mindoro, a discussion on the local dynamics, as well as the necessary efforts needed to be done to present the project to the civil society and the insurgent groups.  Continue Reading →
